Animation work for De School
3D visualisation of ‘Het Altijd’ a book on the cultural legacy of techno club De School. The book features a glossy, textured, hard plastic cover, with a silk screen grid printed on top with an elastic binder element.
One of the central design themes in the book is time, conceptualised in the different stories that are present in the book and how it invites a modular reading experience. With pages that can be taken apart and recombined to shape different storylines. This idea was inspired by the architecture of the venue and its many activities, which together created a complexity of overlapping narratives throughout different hours of the day.
The theme of time was further carried into the digital content developed for the book’s campaign. The animation I worked on features a dynamic, fluid, organic form that enters the frame, both revealing itself and expanding as it moves. As it gradually progresses through the frame, it merges with the surrounding content, creating a cohesive and flowing visual narrative.
Both visually and conceptually, this fluid motif was selected for its ephemeral qualities, as well as its ability to embody ideas of expansion, tracing, and influence.
